The 1960 "Skipper" With Wife, Linda, 1999

Okay, okay, Steve Hussar was not technically on our 1960 Frontier team, Steve graduated in June, 1960, but was a very good friend to many of the players on our squad and was a standout on our team for the 1959 season. By incredibly coincidental timing, Steve and I both wound up in Gilroy, CA in 1972 and bumped into each other at a Newcomer’s Club party. That led to many good times over the years and, when Steve heard of our book and reunion, he wanted in. I could not refuse.

After graduating from Riverside, Steve went to the University of Buffalo and earned his B.S. in Economics in 1965. He married the love of his life, Linda, in the summer of ’65 and they moved to San Francisco, where he began working for the Travelers Insurance Company. Over the next seven years, he worked for them in San Francisco, San Jose, and San Diego. In 1972, Steve accepted a position with an insurance brokerage, Voorhies & Parrish, in Gilroy, CA (and that’s when we were reunited). After demonstrating his many talents for a few years, they were forced to rename the firm Voorhies, Parrish, & Hussar.

Steve and Linda have two adult children. Traci (born in 1968) has two children of her own, thus making Steve a grandfather. Their son, Matthew (born in 1972) is a banker in Reno, NV and is still….. a single man.

Linda Hussar graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz with a Teaching Credential and currently teaches at the Gilroy Continuation High School. She also chairs the polenta event in “Gourmet Alley” at the annual, and nationally renowned, “Gilroy Garlic Festival”.

They love their empty nest and spend their free time playing tennis, wine tasting, and doing country western dancing at the local “honky-tonks”. They habitually return each August to the same vacation home on the island paradise of Kauai where they revel in the ocean and the beauty of the northern coast town of Hanalei. Since Linda was an art major in college, she continually drags Steve to art exhibits on Kauai and wherever else she can find them. They look forward to retirement in 2003 when they can check out all the fantastic art museums around the world!
