The 1961 "Skipper" August, 1996

After Gary graduated from RHS,  he went to State University College of New York at Buffalo (Buffalo State) where he received his degree in History and Economics. While at Buffalo State, Gary played baseball all four years. Unfortunately, he blew out a knee while in the on-deck circle in his senior year and it ruined any chances to pursue professional baseball. The good news is that the bad knee also kept him out of the military.

In 1968, Gary married Ellen Devonshire and they subsequently had two sons, Jeffrey (in 1970) and Michael (in 1973). Jeffrey graduated from Purdue University and is currently a Human Resources Generalist for Fingerhut Corporation. Michael grauated from the University of North Dakota, and is a pilot for Phoenix East Aviation. Sadly, his wife, Ellen, passed away in 1994.

Gary is currently working as the Manager of Telecommunication Services for Metris Companies and has the responsibility for Call Center sites at Jacksonville, FL, Tulsa, OK, Scottsdale, AZ, and Baltimore, MD. In 1999, He found Jean, the Sales Manager for Alliant Foods, and they fell in love and got married. They have moved into a new home and are looking forward to many good years ahead.

Meanwhile, sports still occupy a great deal of Gary’s time with racketball, golf, and slow pitch softball being his favorites. He confesses though, that his bad knees forced him to give up on the softball in 1997.

Another favorite activity of Gary’s was getting together with Jim Adelman to tip a few beers and tell old war stories. He claims they used to go to ‘Champps’ (the local watering hole) and drink beer while eating hot fudge sundaes. This practice brought some mighty strange looks from the other patrons! Unfortunately, this fun came to an unhappy and untimely end when cancer took over Jim’s life and finally ended it in February of 1999. Gary encourages anybody to ask him about “Uncle Jimmy Tours” when we next get together so that he can relive the ‘good times’.

After the trauma of losing two people that were very special to him, Gary is looking forward to better times ahead with Jean and their new home.
