| IN THEATRES: MARCH 30, 2001 (LIMITED) Based on the 1996 novel of the same title by John Le Carré, THE TAILOR OF PANAMA, directed by John Boorman, is a political thriller about a simple Panamanian tailor (Geoffrey Rush) whose knack for telling tall tales to the bourgeoisie he services in his shop has some serious repurcussions among the Panamanian powers that be. Pursued by a British spy (Pierce Brosnan), the tailor finds himself caught in a dicey tête-à-tête. |

Anyone that has read any of John Le Carre's novels knows that he has a unique style. This movie from his book is consistent with that statement. It develops slowly, and if you go to the movie in a 'tired' mode, you may start falling asleep. But if you make it through the plot development, it starts to get interesting and humorous as it all unfolds. I was tired when I went and I was just about to drop off when I started to enjoy it. The net result is that I think it was a good movie, but may not be for everyone. I am a fan of both Pierce Brosnan and Jamie Lee Curtis --- so that helped my enjoyment quite a bit. If you remember, Le Carre also wrote "The Spy Who Came In From The Cold" many years ago. I liked that one, too. If you enjoyed that movie, your chances are good that you will like this one. |
