RESERVE UNIT UPDATE

The Reserve Division recently developed two new programs: the Career Track Program and the Level III Reserve Officer Program.
The goal of the Career Track program is to give people who have a P.O.S.T. certificate a path to become a full-time officer with the Sacramento Police department without going throughout another academy. Reserve Officers will still be brought into the unit to perform Reserve Officer duties, however, in addition, these officers will also participate in an extensive field training program where they will be evaluated by training officers. Those officers who successfully pass all the aspects of this training and evaluation may be given the opportunity to interview for a full-time position. At this time, only those officers who have graduated from the Sacramento Police Departments Academy are eligible for this program. There are hopes in the very near future to expand this to accept graduates from outside academies.
The second program that has been implemented into the Reserve Division was the expansion to accept level III Reserve Officers.  Level III Reserve Officers are those who have successfully completed the basic P.O.S.T. 832 P.C. (Arrest, Search and Seizure) course. The Level III Reserve Officer will wear a Reserve Officer badge, a light blue shirt and dark blue pants, and will be unarmed. Level III Reserve Officers will be utilized for traffic control functions and assisting with the transportation detail.
