End of Watch

              Gone but not Forgotten

A Part of America Died Somebody killed a policeman today, and a part of America
died. Apiece of our country he swore to protect, will be buried with him at his
side. The suspect that shot him will stand up in court, with counsel demanding
his rights. While a young widowed mother must work for her kids, and spend
many long, lonely nights. The beat that he walked was a battle field too, just as
if he'd gone off to war. Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast, to his
name they will add a gold star. Yes, somebody killed a policeman today, in your
town or mine. While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors, a cop put his life
on the line. Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street, and he stands at each
new rookie's side. He answered the call, of himself gave his all, and a part of
America died.

The Police Officer's Prayer

O Almighty God, Whose great power and eternal wisdom embrace the universe,
watch over all the police officers and law enforcement officers. Protect them from
harm in the performance of their duty to stop crime, robberies, riots and violence.
We pray, help them keep our streetsand homes safe day and night. We recommend
them to your loving care because their duty is dangerous. Grant them your unending
strength and courage in their daily assignments. Dear God, protect these brave men
and  women, grant them your almighty protection, unite them safely with their families
after duty ends. For these men and women truely walk the "Thin Blue Line", Amen.

 The Cop
His job has always been to protect and serve.
The pay is far less then he deserves.
He patrols the streets eight hours a day.
His back-up is still ten minutes away.
He’s the nicest man that you’ve ever met.
Some people thank him, but many forget.
“Why does he do this?” Many will ask.
No silver bullets. He wears no mask.
Decent pay and a little respect.
Is it too much for him to expect?
Some nights he worries and is unable to sleep.
With layoffs and lawsuits, seven days a week.
But he keeps on fighting the war on the streets.
Answering calls and patrolling his beat.
Considered lucky, because he’s still alive.
Collecting a pension at age fifty-five.
To those who have fallen, doing their job.
At domestic disputes or stores being robbed.
I ask your family and all of your friends.
“How can we stop the violence... WHEN WILL IT END?”
